‘Another tactic’

I was saddened and then angered by the letter from Candice Keller of the Community Pregnancy Center concerning the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Planned Parenthood (“It really is all about the money,” April 19).

It is disturbing that an agency that does so much good, such as the Community Pregnancy Center, would be used by the director to make a political statement attacking the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which is another agency associated with the saving of many lives and founded for the good of women.

A little bit of research into why the Komen Foundation donates money to Planned Parenthood would help people understand that there are women who are in poor areas who need the cancer screening and prevention services that Planned Parenthood provides. The money is designated to be used for cancer prevention and screening and that use is checked on every six months to ensure it is still being used as it has been directed.

I also feel it is extremely irresponsible of Candice Keller to put in print that abortion is a risk factor for breast cancer. The National Institutes of Health, Harvard and Oxford University, all highly prestigious and recognized for their work toward cancer research, have said there is no link between abortion and breast cancer. This is just another tactic used only for political means and I hope the public can see through Ms. Keller’s attempt to obscure facts to fit her motives.
