‘A good idea’

Regarding Ohio House Bill 159 (requiring photo ID for voters): My mother was a registered Democrat, in a wheelchair, living in a nursing home. When she passed away, we notified the Butler County Board of Elections to remove her name. They found two different registrations in her name, dated during the time she was at the nursing home, and canceled them. (There were variations to the name, initials, etc., that apparently allowed this to happen).

About six months later, my sister, who was the executrix, received a summons for jury duty in Mother’s name. We again notified the board of elections.

(By the way, it might be enlightening to your intrepid editorial staff — or any other newspaper — to visit a few nursing homes just prior to an election and witness the drive to get the residents registered.)

It is truly amazing to read the flawed logic and misinformation in the March 24 editorial that states, “Photo ID bill is a bid to hassle.”

Yes, photo ID would be a good idea to eliminate voter fraud. How do we know if she or someone else was voting in her name? With a photo ID, the poll worker could at least identify that the person voting was not a victim of identity theft. ...

If an older citizen, with failing memory, can be influenced to register three times, perhaps they should be certified to be competent enough to vote on our future.
