AK Steel to release 4Q, full-year financial results

WEST CHESTER TWP. —

AK Steel said Wednesday that it plans to release its fourth quarter and full-year 2012 financial results before the opening of trading on the New York Stock Exchange on Jan. 29, 2013.

AK Steel will also provide live listening access on the Internet to its earnings conference call to be held at 11 a.m. Eastern Time on Jan. 29.

Access to the webcast will be available at www.aksteel.com. The webcast will be archived there until Feb. 5, 2013.

AK Steel operates multiple steel plants, including Middletown Works. Last month, the steelmaker announced it will lose 67 to 72 cents per share during the fourth quarter, a higher-than-expected net loss, and is experiencing pricing problems.

About half of that loss will come from a $35 million income tax charge the company plans to take.

The West Chester Twp.- based company — Middletown’s largest employer and one of Butler County’s largest employers — said it expects its steel shipments to reach up to 1.4 million tons in the quarter, compared with 1.36 million tons in the third quarter. But AK also said it expects average selling prices for all products to decline by about 5 percent from its average selling price of $1,073 per ton for the third quarter.
