Abduction charges amended against local man

By Rick McCrabb

When the Middletown woman who allegedly was held against her will and threatened with a knife couldn’t be found by the prosecutor’s office, the six counts of abduction against a Middletown man were amended.

Judge Mark Wall sentenced Grayson Lawson, 32, of Arlington Avenue, to 300 days in Butler County jail Monday afternoon for inducing panic, unlawful restraint and drug abuse/instrument. He also isn’t allowed to have contact with Angela Hall-Thompson, who called police late last year.

Lawson was charged with six counts of abduction, all felonies, after he allegedly took two children and held four more people against their will Dec. 30 in the 2100 block of Arlington Avenue, according to police.

Lawson allegedly was holding an 18-month-old and a 2-year-old in a white van after he assaulted Hall-Thompson, 33. When police arrived around 10 p.m., Lawson tried to flee the area, but was stopped by police in the back yard. Police found a hypodermic needle in his front right pocket and he was arrested for drug paraphernalia/needle.

The prosecutor’s office tried several times to contact Hall-Thompson, but she never responded to their letters, Carrie Carpenter told Wall.

Several charges were dropped against Lawson, including driving under suspension, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and open flask.

Wall asked Lawson how long he had used heroin and he told him seven months. He told the judge he was “sorry” for wasting the court’s time.
