HAMILTON — In about a week, Butler County officials expect to begin having a solid handle on all industrial and commercial property in the county — except in West Chester Twp.
The county commission on Thursday approved a contract with Missouri-based Xceligent Inc. to inventory the industrial and commercial sites.
“I think this is going to be a good database and it’s going to be worthwhile,” said Butler County Department of Development Director Mike Juengling. “We’ll have more detailed information on all the buildings in the area, the ownership will be current, the tenants will be current by month where we would be updating it every six months to a year.”
West Chester Twp. hasn’t committed yet because trustees want to wait until their new development director is on board, said spokeswoman Barb Wilson. Township officials are interviewing prospective candidates, she said.
The contract with Xceligent will be finalized within a week or two, Juengling said. The first year of the contract will be $5,520, with each community reimbursing the county. The communities involved include Hamilton, Fairfield, Trenton, Middletown, Monroe and Liberty Twp. Butler County’s portion — $660 a year — will come from the county’s enterprise zone fund.
If West Chester Twp. joins in the fold, the annual contract will be $6,720.
Juengling has a 60-day contract termination clause if the county does not want to continue the partnership.
“But I don’t anticipate that happening,” he said.
Juengling said updating the current database, which is with the state, “becomes cumbersome to find the time to do that. It takes up a good deal of staff time to do that.”
Xceligent’s database will be more extensive than what the county provides. The senior planner, currently a vacant position, had spent about 25 percent of his time updating the list, which equated to about $10,000 in salary, Juengling said.
