Staff Report
MASON — Potential vice presidential candidate and Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell will be the keynote speaker of the 42nd annual Warren County Republican Party’s Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner on Feb. 17 at the Manor House in Mason.
McDonnell hit the national spotlight in 2009 when he earned 59 percent of the vote in what many pundits say was the first sign that independent voters were swinging back to Republican candidates. He received the most votes of any candidate for governor in Virginia history. McDonnell is also the chair of the Republican Governor’s Association (RGA).
“We are excited to have someone of Governor McDonnell’s prominence in Warren County,” said Jeff Monroe, Warren County GOP Chair. “As head of the RGA, Gov. McDonnell has a unique perspective on the Republican presidential primary and certainly on the November elections. We are looking forward to hearing what he has to say.”
The dinner is open to the public. Tickets are available for the event by visiting www.gopwarrencounty.com or calling Mary Jo Kubicki at (513) 649-7167. Cost is $60 per ticket. Tables of 10 can be reserved for $600. A special private reception with Governor McDonnell is available for an additional $40 per person.
The reception begins at 6 p.m. followed by the dinner at 7 p.m.
Monroe said that more than 500 people attended last year’s event, which featured newly-elected Governor John Kasich. He expects about the same number of people this year.
“People are excited that Ohio will once again be playing a pivotal role on not only the November election, but who our Republican presidential nominee will be.
‘‘We are expecting presidential candidate campaigns to have a presence at our dinner because they know how important Warren County is to the election,” Monroe said.
