FAIRFIELD — Three new assistant principals were hired Monday, June 29, at a meeting of the Fairfield City Schools Board of Education.
Jason Hussel will be assistant principal at Fairfield Intermediate School. He was an interim assistant principal at Northwest Local Schools.
Elizabeth Prince will join him as an assistant principal at the intermediate school. She was principal at Amanda Elementary School in Middletown City Schools.
Jesse Kohls will be an assistant principal at Fairfield Middle School. He was a middle school teacher for Ross Local Schools.
“I feel like I am raiding some of our surrounding school districts,” Cathy Milligan, said welcoming the new staff.
Former superintendent Charlie Wiedenmann also spoke of the recent buzz in the district about the numerous transitions. He praised Milligan and said during turnover in his tenure, she was the one who hired the staff in 1992.
“I think this is all getting blown up. The difference between ’92 and ’93 now is that you’ve got an instigator ... There is not a problem. This district’s in good shape and there are people trying to make an issue out of this. It’s hogwash.”
Community member Bob Sutton encouraged the board to be aware of recent administrative turnover, but to feel blessed that Fairfield is a training ground for good leadership.
“One of the problems to training administrators and growing them is that you’re probably growing someone else’s leader,” he said. “That is if you’re good.
“Look at it critically, because Mrs. Milligan and the others need those questions asked, but not to spend too much time on that because you’ve hired good people,” he said.
In other business, the board approved plans to require a nine-week keyboarding course for all fifth-graders. It formerly provided the class at the middle school level, but concern that students need the skills sooner drove the decision, administrators said.
The board meets again in a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. Monday, July 6, at the board office and a regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. July 16 in the Fairfield High School Community Room.
