HAMILTON — The 17-year-old Lebanon boy accused of beating a fellow One Way Farm resident to death will be tried as an adult on felony murder charges.
Judge Ronald Craft determined Thursday that Lance Tiernan should be tried as an adult during a hearing in Butler County Juvenile Court. Tiernan is accused of causing the death of 16-year-old Anthony Parkeson following a fight at the Fairfield home for juveniles.
Bond was set at $1 million and his case will be heard next in Common Pleas Court.
Staff at the group home found Parker unresponsive on Dec. 19, 2011, three hours after he was assaulted. The youth appeared fine to employees at the home immediately after the assault.
Parkeson, a Fairfield High School student, died from his injuries after spending more than a week on life support at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. An autopsy determined the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
Tiernan was originally charged with aggravated assault, but prosecutors dismissed that charge and levied him with a murder charge following Parker’s death.
