FRANKLIN — Police say a suspected explosive found in a vandalized car near a Franklin apartment complex was likely a commercially available firework.

The Butler County sheriff’s bomb unit responded to the scene at 40 Boulder Drive at roughly 9:50 a.m. today, Nov. 18, on request from Franklin police.

They were called after Franklin police found what appeared to be a plastic bottle with a fuse protruding from the top in the vicinity of a vehicle that was vandalized and had its tires flattened.

The vehicle was a four-door Chevrolet owned by Kathy Arbaugh, who lives at the complex, according to Franklin police.

The bomb squad responded and said the device — described as 3 inches in length and roughly half an inch in diameter — appeared to be a “conventional aerial launch firework that can be purchases commercially which appeared to be wrapped in plastic,” according to the Franklin police.

No one was injured and no arrests have been made, though the incident remains under investigation, according to Franklin police.
