State: 34 suspected cases of swine flu

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Health reported Monday, May 4, the number of suspected swine flu cases statewide decreased to 34.

The state health agency has ruled out two cases in Butler County, one case in Warren County, three in Hamilton County and nine in Montgomery County.

Nationwide, the number of confirmed cases to 286 in 36 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. One death has been attributed to the virus also known as H1N1.

Ohio has three confirmed cases of the disease, including two in Columbus and one in Elyria.

Health officials are urging residents to take basic precautions to prevent the disease, such as washing hands, covering the mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, and stay home if you’re sick.
