LEBANON — Two local 4-H members were crowned as the king and queen of the 160th Warren County Fair on Monday afternoon.

Kirk Walford and Rebecca Stewart were announced as the 2011 king and queen during festivities at the Warren County Fairgrounds.

Each candidate received a check for $500 from the Warren County Senior Fair Board and will be participating in various activities during fair week as well as visiting other county fairs throughout the summer.

Stewart, 17, will be a senior at Mason High School while Walford, 18, will be a senior at Waynesville High School.

Both candidates represent the Warren County 4-H program. Stewart is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society and Walford is a member of the National Honor Society.

“I’m excited I won,” said Walford. “I felt my speech could have been better. The other kid was a good competitor. “

Both candidates plan to save the $500 for college.

Stewart beat five other candidates based on her impromptu questions and a fair theme “It’s not an obsession, it’s a passion” speech while Walford beat one other candidate.

“Stewart and Walford were very confident in their speeches and impromptu questioning,” said Dan Hennessey, contest judge. “It was very close, there were a couple ties.”

The queen will later have the opportunity to represent Warren County during the Ohio State Fair, according to Donna Campbell, senior superintendent and Warren County Fair Board member.

“I’m very proud,” said Campbell. “They are a great bunch of kids and adults.”

The Warren County Fair continues through Saturday. Parking is free.

Adult tickets are $8 while a weekly pass is available for $23; children 12 and under are free.
