Law enforcement officers from several local jurisdictions will be running today, June 25, to raise awareness and funds for a special cause.
The Butler County leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Special Olympics kicks off at 8:10 a.m. Thursday in front of the Government Services Center, 345 High St., in Hamilton.
Officers from agencies in Hamilton, Middletown, Fairfield Twp. and Monroe as well as the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, FBI and Secret Service will be among thoe participants, said Hamilton police Sgt. Ed Buns, statewide chairman of the annual event.
Officers will set out on High Street to Ohio 4 and head to the Middletown Division of Police in downtown Middletown. From there, officers will proceed to Springfield, and Friday, the three-day statewide torch run ends in Columbus with the opening day of the 2009 Special Olympics State Summer Games at Ohio State University.
