MADISON TWP. — In response to the popularity of social media, six seniors from Madison High School have been selected to be communications interns, maintaining Madison’s district website during the 2010-11 school year.
The interns’ chief duty is to create and update a blog documenting each student’s senior year.
The district would like the students to turn out at least two to three blog updates per week.
Students will report to the board office a period a day and earn class credit in doing so.
They were selected by AJ Huff, district public relations coordinator.
“I was still in the classroom as a language arts teacher when they were freshmen,” Huff said. “I’ve seen their writing and that was a distinct advantage.”
Alex Fields is a senior selected to be one of the communications interns.
“I hope to blog about my life in general,” Fields said. “I’ll blog about trying to juggle cross country and tennis and just bringing awareness to the community.”
Aside from cross country and tennis, Fields is the president of National Honors Society, vice president of student council and a volunteer for Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
“I think this is a very, very good idea,” he said. “I think it will bring a lot of attention to Madison High School.
Fields said his main goal is simply to inform.
“If somebody’s going through similar things like picking a college is concerned, they can ask us questions,” Fields said.
“It’s like a help center.”
