Search continues for Warren EMS director

Still wanted: A new Warren County emergency management services director.

The Warren County commissioners have screened 41 candidates since October for the open position, but are not satisfied with the applicants.

“I guess nobody in the bunch is what they’re looking for,” said county administrator Dave Gully. “This is a unique set of skill sets. There were a lot of police and fire people who applied, but the person we hire is going to have to have some experience running a communications center.”

Some of the local people who applied are Franklin councilman Jason Faulkner; former Clearcreek Twp. fire chief Bernie Becker of Springboro; former Middletown police chief Michael Bruck of Miamisburg; Mason councilman Tony Bradburn and former Deerfield Twp. Administrator Dan Evers.

EMS director Frank Young was asked to resign in mid-October after a report showed some dispatchers at the county’s dispatch regularly slept on the job.

The controversy surrounding the EMS department circles around the investigation into dispatchers’ actions that began in April and includes one dispatcher, Ron Kronenberger, who is accused of sleeping prior to answering a 911 call from Ryan Widmer, who reported his wife Sarah’s drowning in August 2008.

The county hired an outside consultant to look into the Widmer matter and Gully said he expects to receive that report any day. At that time, the commissioners also said they were going to ask the consultants to do a top to bottom investigation into the emergency management department. They have backed off of that.

Commissioner Pat South said it would have cost $77,000 for a full blown investigation. Since Gully has been at the helm of the department — he was named interim director after Young left — South said the county has identified problems like unfinished projects, staffing problems among other issues.

South said she expects the Widmer report will shed light on some other issues. She said she believes operations are getting better in the department and the county doesn’t feel a sense of urgency or need to hire a search firm to help find a new director. Applications are still being accepted.

Way the headline reads, it makes it sound as if he's just gone missing and they can't find him. Lol.

Bring back Frank Young. Fire the people who were sleeping and the supervisors who allowed it. I think someone jumped the gun on that decision.
