Three men seeking different seats on local school boards are hoping to get more involved in their communities.

Lifelong Madison Twp. resident Mike Miller will seek election to one of two open seats on the Madison Board of Education in the fall.

Miller will run against board Vice President Glenn Cappel, Marva Sampson and Angela Whiteman.

Miller has two children who attend Madison Jr./Sn. High School and a 3-year-old.

“I want to give our students the best education possible and be an advocate for the community as well as all of the citizens,” said Miller, who has been a coach for the Madison Sports Club and junior high sports teams.

Miller said he wants to ensure Madison students graduate with the skills they will need to be competitive in the global economy.

“It would be an honor to serve the community,” said Miller, who works for Procter & Gamble Co.

Duane Patrick is seeking a four-year term on the Carlisle Board of Education after being appointed last year to fill a vacant seat.

Patrick will run for one of the three open seats along with board members David Clay and Tammy Lainhart and William Jewell Sr. and Kevin Taylor.

Patrick, a nearly 20-year resident of Carlisle, said he wants to help the district achieve a rating of “excellent” on the state report card.

“I believe our school is headed in the right direction,” said Patrick, an associate pastor who has two children in grades five and eight. “We’re not there yet. I just want to be a part of the team that gets us there.”
Another longtime Carlisle resident is seeking to fill the remaining two years of a term on the Carlisle school board.

Bryan Dunkman, father of two Carlisle High School graduates, will run against Joe Marinich for the open seat.

“I just want to see our schools be the best that they can be. Turn out the best students that we can,” said Dunkman, who is married to a Carlisle kindergarten teacher and works as an ITS support technician for Cox Ohio Publishing, owner of the Middletown Journal.

Dunkman said he would bring to the school board eight years of experience on the middle school Parent Teacher Organization, seven of those as president, and 18 years of experience working with youth at his church.
