A schedule of some official and unofficial activities surrounding Barack Obama's inauguration today, Jan. 20:

Gates to the Inaugural Ceremony open at 8 a.m. Festivities are to start at 10 a.m. on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. They will include:

Musical selections of The United States Marine Band, followed by the San Francisco Boys Chorus and the San Francisco Girls Chorus.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein provides call to order and welcoming remarks.

Invocation by the Rev. Rick Warren.

Musical selection by Aretha Franklin.

Biden will be sworn into office by Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.

Musical selection of John Williams, composer/arranger.

Obama will take the Oath of Office, using President Lincoln's Inaugural Bible, administered by Chief Justice John Roberts. Scheduled at noon.

Obama gives the inaugural address.

Poem by Elizabeth Alexander.

Benediction by the Rev. Joseph E. Lowery.

The National Anthem by The United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters."

After Obama gives inaugural address, he will escort outgoing President George W. Bush to a departure ceremony before attending a luncheon in the Capitol's Statuary Hall.

The 56th Inaugural Parade will then make its way down Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the White House.

Later that day, the Presidential Inaugural Committee will host 10 official inaugural balls.

TV COVERAGE TODAY

The main course will comprise the swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural address, and parade. Continuous network coverage is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Obama will take the oath at noon.

BBC World News America will present live coverage of the inauguration ceremonies beginning at 11 a.m. (the same time Jim Lehrer takes to the air for PBS). The BBC will beam its newscast to 280 million TV households around the world.

Channels as disparate as ESPN, Nickelodeon and QVC have inauguration programming scheduled.

No TV? No problem. Rick Kaplan, "CBS Evening News" executive producer, said, "We'll have a Webcast streaming and a huge number of up-to-the-minute contributions we'll make to cbsnews.com during the day."

CNN has worked a deal with Facebook so users of the social network can chat online with friends while watching live video from the nation's capital.

Other entertainment channels join in tonight. BET has a one-hour special, "Yes We Will! (8 p.m.)

MTV is covering the Youth Inaugural Ball (10 p.m.), where President Obama will address the crowd. The music channel will transmit his remarks to 162 countries.

Tonight's big-ticket event is the Neighborhood Ball on ABC (8 p.m.), including performances by Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige.
