Road construction will add to traffic headaches for area shoppers

MONROE — Shoppers scurrying to area stores Friday, Nov. 27, to snap up bargains will likely encounter traffic tie ups, not just from the sheer number of vehicles, but from construction projects.

Specifically, shoppers at Cincinnati Premium Outlets in Monroe will have to deal with continued lane closures on Ohio 63.

“Work is suspended over the weekend, but the barrels are still out,” said Sharon Smigielski, Ohio Department of Transportation public information officer. Ohio 63 each direction from Lawton Avenue to Senate Drive is reduced to one lane. The ramp construction project has a projected completion date of June 2011.

Major reconstruction projects of north and southbound Interstate 75 from Cincinnati-Dayton Road in Butler County to Ohio 122 in Warren County also is continuing, but three lanes of traffic in each direction are maintained, with north and southbound traffic separated by a portable concrete barrier wall, according to ODOT.

Monroe’s police department said it plans to have extra officers working to help move traffic in heavy construction areas.

Monroe police Chief Greg Homer said the city plans to have extra patrols from Lebanon, Trenton and Monroe manning traffic lights outside the mall.

Staff Writer Denise Wilson contributed to this report.
