MONROE — Monroe’s police department is full, having recently hired two new officers to bring its total to 29.

Sara Vaught and Matthew Rykoskey were introduced and sworn in as new police officers during a City Council meeting Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Vaught, 28,resides in Cincinnati with her husband John, who is a Cincinnati police officer.

She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music.

She also was the valedictorian of her graduating class from the University of Cincinnati Police Academy where she received her Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy certification, said Monroe Police Chief Greg Homer.

Vaught has had many interesting jobs in her law enforcement career such as appearing in a police television series called “Numbers” in 2007, he said.

Rykoskey, 25, of Franklin, graduated from Butler Tech Police Academy where he obtained his Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy certification.

He also has attended the University of Cincinnati, Sinclair Community College and Miami University in Middletown. He has more than 100 credit hours and hopes to complete a bachelor of arts degree in the near future, Homer said.

Rykoskey also has worked for his mother — a former police dispatcher for the Franklin Police Department for 17 years — in a family-owned business called Ameridry.

Vaught officially began her new duties with the department on Tuesday, Dec. 8 and Rykoskey began his job Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Monroe City Council’s Dec. 22 meeting has been canceled as a result of the Christmas holiday.

As long as humans are around laws will be broken the police can not be everywhere at once.

What's funny is one morning a car was doing 25mph on Macready by that old school, turned in and hit the gas and went tearing into the back lot. Guess the fake cruiser isn't much help on school property or when a teacher or admin is late for work.

I totally agree.... I am so sick of the speed infront of my house. I live in Lee
Meadows, they should have a stop sign at Still Pass and Trailsend. the bus's don't even slow down... where are the police then... I have seen one officer doing his job, he's an older man..." thank you" Monroe is really not that big that they can't control the speed...gee.!!
