The City of Monroe recently hired three new firefighter/paramedics and emergency medical technicians to replace other personnel who have left the department.

They officially joined the department on Nov. 16, said Fire Chief Mark Neu, and will be introduced to city council members Nov. 24. The department now has 33 firefighters and paramedics and is fully staffed to the number allotted by the city at this time, Neu said.

The department’s new employees include Dan Smith, who previously was a part-time firefighter paramedic with the Lebanon Fire Division and Miami Twp Fire Department in Montgomery County, and Clearcreek Twp. Fire District in Warren County. He’s been in fire service for two years, Neu said.

Newcomer Josh Kramer, of Monroe, was previously employed as a career firefighter at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and still is employed as a part-time firefighter for the City of Franklin.

Kramer has been in the fire service for three years.

Mike Jones, who also joined the Monroe Fire Dept., previously was employed as a career paramedic with the Kettering Medical Center and worked as a firefighter and paramedic for the Washington Twp. Fire Department in Montgomery County. He has been in the fire service for four years.
