MONROE — Silver Bells will be an appropriate holiday song for the Monroe Community Chorus to perform for its 25th — or silver — anniversary with its Christmas concert this weekend.
The Monroe Community Chorus and Jazz Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Monroe High School Auditorium, 220 Yankee Road, Monroe.
The Chorus is composed of 55 area singers from Monroe, Liberty Twp., Middletown and Trenton representing nine churches. The singers are accompanied by a 17-piece Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Larry Daniel.
The group performs just once a year. The will be its 25th year performing, Daniel said.
“It’s a great night of fun, upbeat Christmas songs,” Daniel said. “We play a lot of the classics to get our audience in the holiday spirit and have a fun time. It’s our only concert of the year, so we always aim to make it a big one.”
Daniel said even thought many of the songs being performed are familiar, they will be arranged in new and exciting ways that will create a fresh listening experience for the audience.
Songs scheduled for the hourlong concert include “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” “Jingle Bells” “Greensleeves” “Let It Snow” and many others, Daniel said.
Santa is also rumored to be making an appearance at the concert.
Admission to the concert is free, but donations are accepted to benefit local nonprofit groups, Daniel said.
“We have a lot of great performers who come together to make this possible,” Daniel said. “Every member loves to sing or loves music and a lot of them are really incredible musicians. They are all really in the Christmas spirit. I guarantee it will be a great time.”
