OXFORD — Miami University’s theater department will present William Shakespeare’s comedy “As You Like It” at 8 p.m. Nov. 16-19 and 2 p.m. Nov. 20, in Gates-Abegglen Theatre.
The show is directed by Howard Blanning, assistant professor of theater at Miami. The story examines a perfect pair of lovers, both banished, seeking refuge when they meet in the Forest of Arden. Only one complication prevents their love from flourishing: the lovesick Rosalind is disguised as a man.
As she teaches Orlando how to woo a woman, her frustration yields to high comedy in this tale of cross-dressing, mistaken identity and love, filled with poetry, song, slapstick humor and shrewd observations about human nature. Perhaps the most famous quote from the play is “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”
Tickets are $9, $8 for seniors and $6 students/youth and are available at the Miami University box office. Call (513) 529-3200 or order online at tickets.muohio.edu.
