OXFORD — The Miami University Marching, directed by Stephen Lytle, will perform a special 75th anniversary concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21 at Talawanda Middle School, 4030 Oxford Reily Road.

Featured on the program will be traditional favorites of the marching band repertoire, as well as selections from half-time performances from the Miami football games.

The Miami University Marching Band was formed in the 1930s under the direction of A.D. Lekvold. He was director of bands from 1936-1960. Nicholas Poccia served as director from 1960-1978, followed by Jack Liles, 1978-1999, and David Shaffer 1999-2009.

The current director, Stephen Lytle, came to Miami in 2009 as the director of athletic bands at Miami University. In addition to directing the marching band, he also conducts the hockey band, serves as associate conductor of the symphony band, and teaches courses in the instrumental music education curriculum.

The marching band performed at the 2003 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and two football bowl games (2003 GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala. and 2004 Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La.).

The band is invited once again to perform in the 2011 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The concert is free and open to the public.
