MIDDLETOWN — The 2010 Census “Portrait of America” Road Tour will make an extended stop in Middletown today, Jan. 5.
Chris Amburgey, co-chairman of the Middletown Matters Complete Count Committee, said the van will be escorted into the city by a fire truck at around 12:45 p.m. The van will make a brief stop at the Middletown Area Senior Citizens Center to set up a display that will be manned by census personnel until 3:30 p.m. at the center.
The van will make its way to the Middletown Community Center, 800 Lafayette Ave., where attendees can learn about the census and the impact their participation can have on the community.
Kevin Boyce, treasurer of the state of Ohio, and Middletown Mayor Larry Mulligan Jr. will speak at the Middletown Community Center at approximately 4:15 p.m., in an effort to promote awareness of the 2010 Census.
“The mayor will welcome Treasurer Boyce and several other dignitaries, but we’re still waiting to hear who they are,” Amburgey said. “It’s important to know that while this exhibit is being shown, testing for census jobs will be available to visitors.”
Prospective job-seekers will be able to take a practice version or the actual census employment test at the community center from about 4 p.m. until the display closes; they also may sign up to take the employment test at a later date, Amburgey said.
Members of Team FastTrax, a skydiving team that recently moved its operations base to Middletown’s municipal airport, will perform a jump in Douglass Park at approximately 5 p.m. as part of the festivities, Amburgey said.
