FAIRFIELD —The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce’s 56th annual dinner will throw visitors a change-up this year.
That’s because the featured speaker at the dinner on March 29 will be Hal McCoy, a Hall of Fame sportswriter who covered the Cincinnati Reds for decades.
The chamber chose McCoy because the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League will be a beneficiary of the dinner, and the Miracle League is in the midst of building the “Field of Dreams” complex that will offer programs for the disabled, said Kert Radel, the executive director and CEO of the chamber.
“We’re really excited about having Hal McCoy. It made a lot of sense to have Hal talk about stories with the Reds and Joe Nuxhall,” Radel said.
Joining McCoy will be Charley Frank of the Reds Community Fund.
The evening also offers a number of honors and awards, including the business person of the year, the president’s award for the volunteer of the year, and the business student of the year, which is chosen through the Business Academy program at Fairfield High School run by Butler Tech. Perry Richardson, a spokesman for that program, said this is only third year of that award, but it has been very difficult to choose a winner.
“All of the kids were really good,” he said, adding that the program may expand to other schools in Fairfield.
“We want people to be able to come and network ... this is one of our marquee events,” Radel said.
The dinner is open to non-chamber members is well as chamber members. The cost is $60 per seat. The deadline to order is March 19.
The dinner will be held at Receptions Conference Center on 5975 Boymel Drive. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. and the program runs from 6 to 9 p.m.
