FRANKLIN — The Franklin Fire Department presented the food pantry, part of Franklin Area Community Services, a $1,200 check Friday, July 10.
Firefighters collaborated with Colorfully Yours, a producer of customized, educational, fire prevention materials, to raise money in May. Citizens could donate $30 and get an 8- by 10-inch picture taken at the department on Fourth Street.
About every two years, the fire department holds fundraisers with the fire materials company. But this is the first time the department gave to the food pantry.
“Cause with the times the way they are, people losing jobs, needing food,” said Capt. Tony Abston, also the station’s union president.
Pantry volunteer Ramona Anderson said the money’s first priority is purchasing food. Director Terry Coyle said the number of food baskets are up this year 16 percent compared to the same time last year.
Also present to receive the check were volunteers Ron Beedle, Susan Daniels and Julia Ferguson and firefighters Quincy Pearson, Jason Brown, Josh Bors and explorer Tim Seehousen.
To donate, drop off items or mail checks to 345 S. Main St., Franklin OH, 45005.
