MONROE — The Monroe High School will be transformed into a veritable winter wonderland this Saturday as a certain jolly ol’ elf makes his way into town for a brief munch and meet.
The Monroe Area Community Foundation will present its second annual Breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Monroe High School, 220 Yankee Road.
The event is an all-out Christmas celebration, said Gina Miltenberger, vice president of the Monroe Area Community Foundation, which is both hosting the breakfast and using it as a fundraiser.
Festival highlights include:
A deluxe continental breakfast, including pastries, muffins, cereal, juices, milk and coffee.
Christmas carols presented by Monroe Elementary, Junior High and High schools.
Storytimes with local notables, including City Council members, sports coaches and principals.
Crafts stations to make ornaments and write letters to Santa.
The main event, a chance to chat with Santa Claus himself. All visitors can also have a free picture with Santa.
“We are expecting a great turnout,” Miltenberger said.
“Last year’s event was wildly successful for us and I felt really helped get the community in the Christmas spirit.”
Miltenberger said last year’s breakfast brought more than 350 people to meet the Santa.
This year, to accommodate an even bigger crowd, the foundation moved the Breakfast with Santa to the high school where organizers were able to spread out the music and craft stations, and host a larger gathering.
The Monroe Area Community Foundation was founded by Miltenberger’s family in 1997 to support local individuals and organizations that provided a service to the community.
The foundation gives away thousands in scholarships every year and has also provided support to firefighters and other community organizations.
