LEBANON — The former Middletown police chief and a Franklin councilman are among about 30 applicants for the vacant director’s position at the Warren County Emergency Services Department.

County Administrator Dave Gully said applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

So far, those applying for the position include Franklin Councilman Jason Faulkner; former Clearcreek Twp. fire chief Bernie Becker of Springboro; Mason councilman Tony Bradburn Jr.; former Deerfield Twp. administrator Dan Evers of Cincinnati; and former Middletown police chief Michael Bruck of Miamisburg. Seven of the applicants are from out of state while most of the other candidates are from southwest Ohio.

The director’s position became open following the resignation of Frank Young last month following an investigation into improper conduct among late-night emergency dispatchers.

He worked for the county since February 1989.

The investigation into the dispatcher’s actions began in April and includes one dispatcher, Ron Kronenberger, who was rumored to have been asleep prior to answering a 911 call from accused killer Ryan Widmer, who reported his wife’s drowning in August 2008. However, the county now says its records show that Kronenberger took calls 4 minutes and 3 minutes that night prior to receiving Widmer’s.

The county Emergency Services Department oversees the county’s communications center, the emergency management agency and the hazardous materials unit.
