Corwin D. “Corky” Talbert, a respected businessman of West Elkton, died Feb. 6. He was 89.
He was a 1940 graduate of West Elkton High School and a Pontiac dealer in Middletown for 25 years before his retirement in 1982.
Talbert served as a West Elkton village councilman for 60 years and was honored by state for his continuous service in office.
He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Camden for 60 years and a lifelong member of the West Elkton Friends Meeting.
Talbert also was a World War II veteran, serving as a pilot in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946.
His son, Drake Talbert of Minnesota, said his father was a “kind man.”
“He was extremely well liked and wonderful businessman in a sense that he was very good to his employees and very good to his customers,” he said.
“I worked with him off and on — part-time and full-time — at the Pontiac dealership most of my life. I got to be good friends with him.”
The business closed in 1982 during the recession, his son said.
“I hate to see him go through it, but it was good for the two of us,” he added. “I’m extremely blessed. I had more than a father. I had a good friend.”
