MILFORD TWP. — A Fairfield man and his young niece were killed Monday morning, Dec. 14, when a minivan collided with an oil tanker truck near the intersection of U.S. 127 and Ohio 73.
Eric Delfendahl, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2005 Dodge minivan he was driving north on U.S. 127 south of Somerville apparently went left of center into the path of a southbound oil tanker truck, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
Passenger Stephanie Delfendahl, 6, also of Fairfield, was transported from the scene by a medical helicopter to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she died, according to the sheriff’s office.
Emergency crews and deputies were called at about 8:30 a.m. to the head-on crash. Early reports indicated the crash occurred in Wayne Twp., but the sheriff’s office later clarified the location.
The driver of a Key Oil tanker truck, Joseph Turry, 62, of Louisville, Ky., was assessed at the scene and appeared to be uninjured.
A passenger in the truck, Mark Pilkengton, 34, of Lebanon Junction, Ky., was transported by Seven Mile Life Squad to The Fort Hamilton Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
