West Chester Police said Tuesday, Nov. 10, the man that drove his pickup truck into the corner of a home Monday afternoon, Nov. 9, fell asleep at the wheel because he was intoxicated.
Roger Avery, 47, of the 8100 block of Taffy Drive, West Chester Twp., was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired and failure to control. He was released after being cited.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m., Avery’s black pickup truck struck other vehicles parked along Bruce Hills Drive and in the driveway of a home in the 8100 block of Bruce Hills Drive before crashing into the northern corner of the home, according to Sgt. Joe Gutman, of the West Chester Police Department.
Gutman said it’s believed that Avery “passed out or fell asleep.”
The homeowners were home at the time of the crash, but no one was injured; the bricks of the house buckled from the impact, officials said, and the home sustained significant damage.
Gutman said Avery submitted to a test of his blood for alcohol or drugs when he was taken to West Chester Medical Center for minor injuries.
Gutman said the OVI charge was the result of the accident and statements made by Avery at the scene. No alcohol or drugs were found in Avery’s vehicle, Gutman said.
