HAMILTON — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday, July 3, that Simplicity Inc. is recalling 400,000 cribs that could cause babies to suffocate.

The commission said consumers should stop using the cribs immediately.

The recall comes after an eight-month-old from Houston, Texas, became trapped and suffocated after becoming stuck between the mattress and the defective drop-down side of the crib.

There have also been 25 additional incidents involving the crib, according to the commission.

The cribs have been sold in stores nationwide since January 2005 for between $150 and $300.

Consumers should immediately return cribs to the place of purchase for a refund, replacement or store credit, the commission said
