Longtime Butler County Morgue attendant and pathologist assistant Marvin Spangenberg died Thursday, Aug. 20, at Hospice of Hamilton. He was 74.
Butler County Coroner’s Investigator Andy Willis, who has worked in the office for 14 years, described his co-worker as a gentle giant who not only took care of the deceased, but assisted in autopsies, ordered supplies and kept the morgue in good order.
“He was a hard worker. Very dedicated to his job,” Willis said.
Spangenberg was a veteran serving in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960, and was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Willis said Spangenberg was a beekeeper, an animal lover, with Iggy the morgue mascot listed as a survivor, and loved to spend time with his large family. In past few years he and his wife, Fayette, built a Hanover Twp. home.
Funeral services will be at the Weigel Funeral Home 980 N. W. Washington Blvd at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug 24. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Monday until time of service. Burial with military services will be in Millville Cemetery.
