MIDDLETOWN — Seven area businesses or organizations that made a significant investment in capital, work force expansion or both during 2011 recently received Faith in the Future Awards from The Chamber of Commerce Serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton.
Supports to Encourage Low Income Families recruited and managed volunteers for a home repair project that “significantly upgraded” the safety and aesthetics of 81 homes, mainly for the elderly, according to Rick Fishbaugh, the chamber’s chairman.
SELF and the visiting Group Workcamps Foundation purchased more than $31,000 in supplies from Middletown businesses.
Cohen Brothers Inc. relocated its retail buying operations to the former Crystal Tissue facilities on South Verity Parkway, started a recycling service for electronic scrap and invested $3 million into purchasing and upgrading the facility and acquiring additional equipment, adding seven new employees.
Other award recipients include:
• LCNB National Bank, which spent $1 million to establish a Monroe branch bank facility on Ohio 63, creating five jobs.
• McGraw/Kokosing, a Monroe-based primary contractor for the SunCoke Energy project, which spent $2.2 million for its new facility and an additional $700,000 on equipment, while adding 18 full-time employees.
• Robinson-Sexton Investments, a Trenton-based company, which spent $90,000 to upgrade its existing strip mall property to attract new tenant Snap Fitness and accommodate current and expanding tenant Cassano’s Pizza.
• Salon Nouveau, a Middletown-based business, which spent more than $15,000 to double and beautify its space and purchase new technology.
• SunCoke Energy’s Middletown operations, which invested nearly $400 million in capital and created more than 100 full-time jobs.
