MONROE — The economy, national debt, government bailouts and help with incentives were among the questions fielded by U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner following a tour of the Deceuninck North America plant Monday, May 11.
The company, which manufactures various vinyl products, hosted the West Chester Twp. Republican for a tour following a Washington visit by Mark Parrish, the company’s president and chief executive officer, earlier this year on behalf of the Vinyl Institute to meet and lobby with various legislators.
A group of about two dozen employees heard some remarks from Boehner, who also fielded several questions. Prior to the plant tour and a session with the employees, Boehner met privately with company officials.
Boehner said the economic stimulus bill has “some worthy provisions,” but it’s not “a jobs, jobs, jobs” program to spur the economy. Instead, he said the bill has turned into a “spend, spend, spend” program.
Boehner said he wanted to keep more money with American families, and while he hopes the economic stimulus package works, he also has “doubts.”
He noted that there are signs the economy is growing, but the deficit is growing, too.
Parrish said the Boehner visit to the North Garver Road plant was important to his company. “We wanted to demonstrate our commitment and investment in North America,” he said. “We’ll weather the economic storm.”
He said company officials met with Boehner to discuss a variety of issues, such as the Employee Freedom of Choice Act, the energy implications of the stimulus package and Buy American laws.
