LEBANON — The Warren County Airport is one of 24 Ohio airports that will be sharing more than $11.6 million for various improvements and critical projects.
The Warren County Commission and the county Airport Authority will be receiving $289,379 for land acquisition for approaches, install perimeter fencing and remove trees at the county airport on Greentree Road.
Bill Simmons, president of the Warren County Airport Authority board, said the grant will be used to repay the county commission the $260,011 it fronted to purchase a little more than 17.5 acres in early January.
Simmons said the additional land on the north end of the runway was needed to comply with FAA regulations for runway protection zones.
The remainder of the grant will used to take down trees as well as put up a new boundary fence between the airport and the Jamison farm, he said.
Simmons said work on the fence and taking down the trees will not happen until sometime in October as the land is currently being used to grow corn.
According to the office of Sen. George Voinovich, eligible airports submit projects to the Federal Aviation Administration for the competitive grant funding. The FAA determines which of the eligible projects will receive funding based on current national aviation priorities.
