Anyone know of a real newspaper that might print a follow up. I would like to know the conditions of the victims and were any citations issued.

To Dan,

1. The accident did happen on the bike path.
2. Don't know?
3. The ATV driver had been drinking.
4. Both drivers had lights on and the bicyclist had a back flashing light and an orange reflective triangle also on the back of his bike.

4 questions if anyone knows the answers...

1) Did the accident happen in an intersection of a road and the bike path?
2) For what infraction was the bicyclist issued a ticket? (Keep in mind, a ticket is not an admission of guilt. It can be overturned in court).
3) Was alcohol involved? Both the cyclist and ATV?
4) Did the bicyclist have working headlights/tailights?

Mike G? I truly hope that your comment about not praying and your lack of concern for the bicyclist was a typo or, that you didn’t really mean it. Although I'm not an extremely religious person, I do know between right and wrong. If you really are a God fearing/praying kind of man, that kind of comment will likely get you in an express lane. And I don’t mean to heaven…

A bicycle in Ohio (and almost every state) is a vehicle and legally shares the rules of the road just like an automobile or motorcycle. A bicycle is defined as a vehicle and thus is governed by a uniform set of rules common to all vehicles and a small set of specific rules for bicycles. So suggesting to only riding on the path in day time and not on roads is an odd comment. Educate yourselves…http://www.ohiobike.org/bicycle-law...

Cyclist should not be out at 10 pm? I’m assuming you mean after dark? Warren County Sheriff says the bike path is open to NON-MOTORIZED traffic 24/7. Streets and roads are also open to bicyclist 24/7. So by law, unless otherwise noted, bicyclist are pretty much allowed everywhere a car is allowed to travel. And at anytime-day or night.

So Mike G? Who rides at night? (This list could go on and on..)
-Our children, our friends and our neighbors. Maybe YOUR children, your friends and your neighbors.
-People who exercise at night because they work 2nd shift or because it is too hot outside during the day.
-Commuters who choose to ride their bikes to work by choice or because they can’t afford a car or gas to drive.
-Bike messengers who rely on cycling for their livelihood.

Growing up in Waynesville, I rode my bike countless times for miles at NIGHT as did all of my friends. It was our main mode of transportation before we got our drivers license. I now live in a city and suburban area where the population is over 4.5 million people. Believe it or not, many people rely on bikes as their main mode of transportation where I live during the day and night. If you can’t ride a bike safely at night in Waynesville/Corwin, I would question where can you? Everywhere!

I ride the bike trail at night (with lights!!!) on my bike and I thought it curious that there has been no mention if either bike or ATV had lights. I have come upon runners at night with no lighting at all and scared them as they thought they were "alone". If you use the trail at night, get lights. Motorized vehicles on the trail are illegal, period!

of course the atv people were in the wrong...but so was the cyclist. If you don't believe me, ask him. He knows he was at fault as well, and if he wasn't then he wouldn't have been ticketed! I am admitting they were all wrong. They should have never been on the trail to begin with @ 10pm but everyone makes mistakes. At least all three of them still have a chance to live and I didn't have to see them laying on the ground...dead.

i know the family of the individuals who got hurt in the atv accident and my question is, why was a bicyclist out at 10:00 any way. my prayers and concerns are for the girl and her dad and not the the bicycleist who think they own the road any way. My advice to cycleist is to ride on the bike trail in the daylight only and not on the roads and leave the poor girl and her father out of it. seriousely, who rides a bike at night anyway.

Time to sell the ATV and use the money to help the 18 yr old with her life! We feel your pain but you should have stepped in along time ago. I truly feel for the cyclist who was totally innocent and totally within his rights.

There is an 18 year old girl that may possibly die that means the world to me and you people ought to be ashamed of yourselves. NOT ONE PERSON has approached me about any issues they have with my family riding their atvs. Instead of being negative about everything, maybe someone should get up and help start a fund to help my baby girl who had no choice. You try growing up in poverty and dealing with your only parent suffering from alcoholism.

Drinking and driving an atv (with his daughter on board)on a path clearly meant for nonmotorized vehicles only. Jailtime!

Terrible no doubt, it is just another black eye for individuals who ride ATV/dirt bikes legally.

It's really sad that something like this had to happen to get the attention of the police department's. Now maybe they will get here faster when someone calls them not an hour later when they feel like it.

I heard there was alcohol involved. What an idiot!!! They have no business being on that bike trail. They ride up and down the road all hours of the night and noone does anything about it. I'm suprised this hasn't happend before.

I agree I live right here in Corwin and I am tired of them riding these things all over all hours of the night waking my kids and and the elderly peopl and people that have to work. This is a tragedy that should have never happened. the Sheriff was at the ATV owners house just last week and warned them about the activity. They do not care about anyone but them selves

Corwin has no police department and the idiots ride their 4 wheelers all over town. The sheriff needs to do some enforcement and make some examples of these crazies.

I'm all for ATV's, but on a designated bike trail, and after dark, they should be prosecuted, and be held liable for civil action.
