Some patients might forget the pain of their ailment when they visit the new West Chester Medical Center, which in some areas boasts a spa-like atmosphere.
It is a digital facility that cost more than $220 million, and it features flat-screen televisions, wireless Internet, private rooms and patient beds equipped with massage controls and an alarm system to alert staff of trouble. Locals can check it out at a public open house on Saturday.
The 160-bed hospital officially opens for business Monday, May 11.
“We’re extremely excited to share with the community their newest option for health care. We’ve spent the past three years creating a hospital that would offer safe, quality care delivered with exceptional customer service,’’ said spokeswomanStephanie Savicki.
“We want our patients, physicians, visitors and employees to say ‘wow’ after a visit with us.’’
When entering the 383,000-square-foot facility, visitors will first step into an oval-shaped lobby with a high ceiling and natural light coming in from windows at all angles.
The facility also has electronic records and a 24-hour pharmacy equipped with touchscreen computers that allow staff to punch in a patient’s name and open a drawer with the correct prescription.
The computer system also identifies staff by a fingerprint scan and tracks the use of narcotics.
