MONROE — The city of Monroe is getting its first automotive repair center.
Bob Gorman of Franklin says he plans to open Monroe Collision Center at 721 Garver Road by the end of January.
He said his 10,500 square-foot shop, which includes 2,100 square-feet of office space, will conduct automotive collision repair and refinishing, and storage of vehicles during repair.
Gorman said his business will use a waterborne paint system — an environmentally friendly refinishing process — to duplicate the original equipment manufacturer factory paint finish.
The business also will use frame straightening machines to conduct structural repairs on vehicles, a laser measuring system and painting will be done in a down draft heated paint booth to eliminate dirt, he said. Gorman said he also plans to offer 24-hour towing in the Liberty Twp., Lebanon, Monroe and Middletown areas.
He said he chose to locate his new business in Monroe because he used to be a resident of the growing community, but he moved away to buy property with some land. He said he lived in the community from 1986-2001, and that he is currently considering purchasing a house in Monroe again.
Gorman said there also is a need for his business in the city, which is convenient to Interstate 75.
“There’s not a collision center in Monroe, I’ll be the first. I just thought it was something that the community needed. You’ve pretty much got to go get it down toward West Chester Twp., up toward the Middletown area for that type of service work,” he said.
Gorman said it is a coincidence that he chose to locate his business on a two-acre lot in Monroe after former Cincinnati second baseman Joe Morgan decided to open a Honda dealership on Garver Road.
“I’ve been looking in Monroe since 2006 for a building that was in the proper zoning, and this building became available this year. So it kind of worked out timing wise and with the Honda dealership opening; it’s kind of a win, win for me,” he said.
Gorman said he initially plans to hire three employees and eventually 11 within the next five years.
He said he has been in the automotive repair industry for 28 years.
He ran a shop in Sharonville — Sharon Woods Collision Center —for about two years and temporarily opened Clearcreek Collision Center in Franklin this summer, which he plans to close once he opens his Monroe location.
Shop hours will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, and closed Sunday.
