MIDDLETOWN — Out of appreciation for its customers, Tobacco Connection gave free hot dogs, pop and chips to its customers Friday, July 3.
Don Tracy of Middletown was driving by when he saw business’ giveaways from 3 to 5 p.m. on the corner of Verity Parkway and Central Avenue was doing.
“It’s just really a good thing,” said Tracy. “I’ve just never seen anybody do something like this because it’s a cost factor and nobody wants to give back.”
The local business tries to pick a busy day when a lot of regular customers get paid on the first of the month, said store owner John Gillum.
“It’s just something we try to do for our customers, bring something positive to downtown Middletown,” said Gillum.
Customers seemed to appreciate the effort.
“It’s nice, very convenient for the community,” said Dereck Archer of Vanderveer Street.
Regular customer Noah D. Jr. said: “I think it’s real good they return the favor to the customers.”
Tobacco Connection has been holding this event the second Friday of the month since May, and will probably do it again in August, said Gillum. And they give away about 200 hotdogs each time, he said. This is also the third year for it.
