What is the world’s most useless product?

By Amelia Robinson

I am sure the Genie Bra, a sport bra-looking garment being promoted TV as a cure-all for chest presentation issues ranging from “back fat” to “three boobs,” is just fine.

But I just can’t get past that ridiculous commercial.

It’s typical made-for-TV hogwashery.

“Are you constantly struggling with your straps? Do your underwires dig into your skin? When you wear a turtleneck does it look like this? Isn’t it time for you to stop your daily struggles with uncomfortable bras that prevent you from looking your best?” a concerned-for-you announcer asks.

“There’s got to be a better way,” a distressed bad bra victim says.

Bras can be a pain in the neck, shoulder and back, but come on. Really?

The makers of Genie Bra aren’t the only ones on TV exaggerating to sell products or making up products that solve contrived problems —– like not having LED-lit slippers.

They don’t call it the manufacturing industry for nothing.

It’s all about giving you something you had no idea you needed because you got along just fine without it.

Is it really a big deal that your blanket sometimes falls off?

Vikings, Incas and all sorts of other people survived for generations without Snuggies.

And what self-respecting commuters worry so much about getting cappuccino on their shirts that they are willing to wear a Slob Stopper adult bib?

And is such bib really worth nearly $15?

Exaggerating issues to make a profit is not a modern thing and it’s not always a bad thing.

People probably had no idea that making toast was such a hassle before the invention of the pop-up toaster.

Making stuff seem worse than it is always shall be ingrained into American’s spirit of ingenuity.

That said, we can do with a little less hype.

What do you think? What is the world’s most useless product?
