Robert Snook, a 37-year resident of Lemon Twp. said he is seeking his third, four-year term on the Lemon Twp. Board of Trustees because he enjoys the job. I am a full-time trustee available on a daily basis to help citizens with their concerns.
The 65-year-old has served as a trustee for eight years and is retired from AK Steel in Middletown where he was employed for 34 years. He is past president of the Monroe Sports Association and a graduate from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. with a masters degree in chemical engineering.
He has been married to his wife, Carolyn, for 42 years.
What will be your priorities if elected township trustee?
My position is to provide the best possible police, fire, emergency squad and road maintenance for the citizens of the unincorporated area of Lemon Twp. in conjunction with the city of Monroe. Each year Lemon Twp. Trustees should apply for block grants from Butler County, which I have worked on the last four years. We received a block grant to replace the sidewalks on Granada Avenue in 2007 for $170,000.
What are the top issues facing the township now and in the future?
Since the economical down turn, there has been properties abandoned and foreclosed at five times the rate in Lemon Twp. as the rest of Ohio. I have been working with Butler County to try and get federal funds for purchase and/or demolition of some of these properties. Funding is an issue. There will have to be cuts in services and/or increase in taxes, which are the voters decision. My position is to protect the property value of the residents of Lemon Twp. against unwanted development and deterioration of neighboring properties.
What is the likelihood of Monroe annexing the township in the future?
I believe that some of Lemon Twp. will be annexed into Monroe, which the residents in the unincorporated areas have the option to do.
