He’s one of the younger candidates seeking a seat on Middletown City Council, but Joshua Laubach believes he can be an efficient and effective council member.

Joshua Laubach, 27, of 2401 Flemming Road, is seeking the 3rd Ward seat on council. He feels he has a better understanding of economics that could benefit the city. Laubach said can get his ideas across to the administration and fellow council members if elected on Nov. 3.

“Simply put, I have a strong desire, a personal desire to see the city move in a positive direction,” he said. “This is my hometown and I plan on staying here.”

One of Laubach’s focuses is working to improve Middletown’s image regional image as a place to live and work. He also said the city could do a better job of marketing itself.

Laubach is currently a member of the public relations committee of The Chamber of Commerce serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton. He’s also a member of the Citizens Advisory Board to the Middletown Division of Police.

Laubach said he looks at his age as “a positive” for him in this council race because it’s a way to bring young people into the local political process.

“I’m not tied to anybody and I can be independent,” he said. “We need young people to step up and I hope I am giving young people an inspiration to get involved with city government.”

If Laubach is elected this fall, he could be one of the youngest member in council’s history.

Laubach said he could make a difference on council by using sound judgment and rational decision-making as well as — first and foremost — making sure he stays in touch with citizens.
