MONROE — A political newcomer and two incumbents were elected to Monroe City Council.

Councilwoman Anna Hale was the top votegetter with 2,105 votes, or 27.16 percent, followed by newcomer Todd Hickman, who came in second with 1,687 votes or 21.77 percent, according to the unofficial preliminary election results in Butler County during Tuesday’s general election.

Robert Routson came in a close third with 1,617 votes, or 20.87 percent.

He was followed by incumbent Steven Tannreuther, who came in fourth with 1,314 votes, or 16.96 percent, followed by another newcomer, Brent Osborn who came in fifth with 1,026, or 13.24 percent.

He was one of five candidates vying for three seats on council.

Hickman, a 48-year-old registered nurse and quality assurance and risk manager for Strategic Nursing Systems in West Chester Twp., was vying to unseat one of the incumbents along with Osborn, 36, who is self-employed and a trustee and vice-president of the Colonial Manor Square Homeowners Association in Monroe.

In Warren County, Hale was the top votegetter again with 20 votes or 28.57 percent.

Hale is a 70-year-old retiree from Mount Pleasant Retirement Village,. This will be her second four-year term on council.

Hickman and Osborn tied for second with 15 votes a piece or 21.43 percent followed by Routson with 11 votes or 15.71 percent and Tannreuther finished last with 9 votes or 12.86 percent.

jb and jonas... did you even read the article? There were only 3 seats. Hale came in 1st, Hickman came in 2nd, Routson came in 3rd. Tannruether came in 4th, which means he did NOT get elected.

Looks like Snook got the "kiss of death" endorsement from Mr. Baseball or Basement Boy. Bet he wishes that he had distanced himself from the endorsement of him... I wonder if he is now looking to hire on as a consultant to SunCoke now that he is not going to be getting the free health insurance from Lemon Township?

Look, another mind reader. Hey Hornets, its called campaigning. That's what you do, you print signs and brochures and pass them out. I would say that's how most elections are won outside of Monroe where you aren't a Routson or Tannreuther. Obviously people read his literature and agreed with him enough to vote. I am going to go with Dan. He worked in the steel industry, big deal, alot of people in the area have at some point in their lives. People make alot of wierd assumptions on here.

Todd wants the coke plant. A) it keeps him in good with his steel buddys and B) it keeps him employed taking care of the rest dying from the pollution.

Hickman won because he spent the most money on signs and slick brochures not because he had anything to say. The voters will soon find out he will go along with anything the majority says.

Hey "SO", if he didn't answer the question, how can you come to the conclusion that he is for the coke plant. Simply because he used to work in the steel industry doesn't mean he is for the coke plant. All you are doing is assuming something because you don't know. I will assume that since you made an illogical comment you are an idiot. See how that works. City Council needed a new face. Congrats to Todd Hickman and all the other elected council members!
