MIDDLETOWN — The case against a Somerville woman accused of assaulting a firefighter was sent to a Warren County grand jury Wednesday, June 24.

Toni L. King, 48, was charged with assault on a fireman, a fourth-degree felony, and disorderly conduct after Middletown police Officer Kenneth King said she grabbed a firefighter’s pants and tried to bite a paramedic.

Officer King testified in Middletown Municipal Court that he responded at 8:34 p.m. June 16, to Applebee’s, 3240 Towne Blvd., to a report of a woman causing a disturbance.

Officer King said Toni King allegedly clutched her chest “as if she was having a heart attack” and slid down against the back of his cruiser.

He called for an ambulance, and firefighters asked for her medical history.

Toni King reportedly hit her head on the pavement, then became “irate” with paramedics, grabbing a firefighter’s pants and “punching firefighter Jason Meischko several times,” Officer King testified.

He said she tried to bite a medic who was attempting to place a protective collar around her neck.

Officer King charged Toni King with disorderly conduct. She reportedly smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet.

Acting Judge Pat Binns bound over the case against Toni King, who appeared in court with attorney Jeremy J. Evans.
