HAMILTON — Attorney Jack Garretson will do some world traveling this holiday season, but not for fun.

He will be working on the defense of twin pediatricians Drs. Mark and R. Scott Blankenburg who are scheduled to stand trial this spring on child pornography charges.

Earlier this month, sentencing for Mark Blankenburg, who has been found guilty of 16 sex-related charges involving three former patients and five counts of drug trafficking and one count of money laundering was scheduled for Dec. 11. But the doctor who had a longtime practice on F Street in Hamilton still faces a trial on 12 counts of child pornography in May.

Fairfield pediatrician Scott Blankenburg is scheduled to stand trial in April on the same child pornography charges and other similar crimes that his brother faced in his first trial.

Garretson, who along with attorney Greg Howard is representing Scott Blankenburg, says the models depicted in the alleged child pornography seized by police at the Blankenburgs’ Susan Drive residence are 18 or older.

Those who keep records for the models are located all over the world. Only one person has agreed to travel here for a deposition. Garretson is set to travel Dec. 10 to London and to Canada on Dec. 16. There will be other trips but not until after the holidays. The doctors are footing the bill.

“In the end this information will prove (the models) are not children. They are adults, and that’s not illegal,” Garretson said.

Prosecutors will not travel with Garretson, but will submit written questions. A hearing next year will address the evidence in the depositions.
