A man was arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop at Fairmount Avenue and Garfield Street. Police stopped a vehicle driven by Eric Gresham at 12:56 a.m., and allegedly found a baggy of 0.23 grams of cocaine on the ground where they say passenger Willie Harvey had gotten out of the car. Police also allegedly found a pipe and a blue pill containing a white powdered substance in Harvey’s pocket. The 59-year-old Garfield Street man was charged with drug abuse crack cocaine and transported to Middletown City Jail. Gresham, 50, received a written warning for failure to display a front license plate.
Police arrested a man at 3 a.m. after he allegedly tossed a bag of crack cocaine out of the window of a car he was driving. Officers said McCoy Wright Jr. tossed the baggie of aboult 1.44 grams of crack after police attempted to pull over the car he was driving. Police said he failed to stop at a right turn at Curtis Street and Fairmount Avenue. Wright, 58, of Curtis Street, was found to be under multiple suspensions and did not have driving privileges, according to police. He was booked in Middletown City Jail on charges of driving under suspension and drug abuse crack cocaine.
A Monroe man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after officers stopped a pickup truck he was driving on University Boulevard and Grand Avenue. Police at 4:20 a.m. stopped Jacob McGuire, 21, of Niederlander Lane, because he allegedly was peeling his tires as the truck turned onto Woodlawn Avenue from Crawford Street. Police said McGuire failed the field sobriety tests and was transported to Middletown City Jail.
Police arrested a Lawn Avenue man on Finley Street near Lawn after they said he was driving while intoxicated. Robert Shuler was charged with DWI, his second such offense in six years, driving with no headlights and driving under suspension. Police had stopped Shuler because allegedly driving with no headlights.
Two men were arrested after police said they ran from officers on foot and in a vehicle from Riverfront Motel, 4312 Tytus Ave. Police responded to the motel at 11:42 a.m. because of a disturbance between management and a tenant. Police arrested Joshua Abney, 28, when he allegedly ran down Tytus, then on Shelly. Police said Abney tried to jump into the passenger window of a car that was headed north on Shelly. Abney allegedly did not obey officers when they told him to get out of the car and walk toward police. The car, driven by Jeremy Strader, stopped and police conducted a pat down on Abney as Strader allegedly pulled off at a high rate of speed. Abney was arrested and charged with obstructing official business, resisting arrest, drug abuse and drug abuse marijuana. Officers found about 2.2 grams of marijuana and a generic Xanax pill in his pants pockets. He also had a warrant through the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. Strader was found later walking on foot and was arrested for driving under suspension and obstructing official business.
