FAIRFIELD TWP. — The same morning Joe D’Angelo Patterson II was laid to rest in Hamilton, police on Thursday, Sept. 2, asked for the public’s help in identifying a man who may have information in his shooting death.

A few hours before Patterson, 34, was gunned down Aug. 25 inside his Tyler’s Creek townhouse, he was seen at 9:08 p.m. at the Value Place extended stay hotel at 6725 Fairfield Business Drive in Fairfield, according to Fairfield Twp. police.

Hotel security camera footage shows that a man came into the hotel around the same time, who police believe may have information that would help their investigation.

Patterson was shot multiple times by a 9 mm handgun after two suspects stormed his home around 11:19 p.m. Aug. 25 at 3385 BentBranch Lane while his wife and three daughters were upstairs. The Butler County Coroner has ruled his death a homicide.

Fairfield Twp. police Sgt. Doug Lanier said the attack was not a random act, and that Patterson may have been followed and targeted by the unidentified suspects who fled Patterson’s home with $1,080.

The two suspects, who remain at large, were armed with the handgun and a semiautomatic rifle, Lanier said. The suspects were both wearing dark clothing. One is described as a shorter, slender black male and the second, also described as a black male, stands approximately 6 feet tall and weighs about 230 pounds, according to police.

Anyone who recognizes the man in the surveillance video image or who has any other information about the incident is asked to contact the Fairfield Twp. Police Department Investigations Section at (513) 785-1461 or CrimeStoppers at (513) 352-3040.
