MIDDLETOWN — A 58-year-old Cincinnati man was killed after his motorcycle and a dump truck collided on southbound Interstate 75 near exit 32 at Ohio 122 in Middletown.
The accident occurred at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, after the motorcycle, a 2008 Honda Gold Wing, struck the rear of a 1989 Ford dump truck driven by Alvin Jennings, 37, of Dayton, said Sgt. J.T. Landis of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lebanon post.
The motorcyclist, whose name was not released pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner’s Office.
Jennings, who was not injured, was a member of the construction crew working on that section of the interstate at the time of the crash, Landis said.
Southbound lanes of the highway just north of the accident site were shut down around six hours as troopers investigated. The lanes were not reopened until at about 2 a.m. this morning, Landis said.
The crash is the third fatality in four days in southbound lanes near the Ohio 122, I-75 junction. All three killed were involved in crashes with a dump truck working construction on the highway.
Two people were killed along I-75 just north of the Ohio 122 exit on Saturday, Nicholas J. Poe, 30, and Amanda E. Poe, 24, of Cross Plains, Tenn. They were killed after their 2009 Nissan Maxima at 9:10 p.m. rear-ended a 1980 Mack dump truck driven by Timothy Smith, 46, of Hillsboro. Speed was reportedly a factor in the Saturday crash, according to the patrol.
Landis said the cause of Wednesday’s accident remains under investigation, however he cautioned motorists to slow down and to allow more space between vehicles when driving through the construction zones.
