LEBANON — A Hamilton woman accused of trying to smuggle drugs and money to her incarcerated son could find herself in prison.
Loretta J. Cottey, 53, is scheduled to appear at 1 p.m. today, July 29, in Lebanon Municipal Court. She was arrested Wednesday during a visit to her son at the Warren Correctional Institution on charges attempting to convey drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility, a third-degree felony, and possessing criminal tools, a fifth degree felony, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction investigators said they learned that Cottey may try to bring drugs during her scheduled visit.
When confronted, she voluntarily surrendered eight small balloons each containing about two grams of marijuana, 58 Klonopin tablets, and two $100 bills, according to the patrol.
Cottey is being held in the Warren County Jail under $15,000 bond on each charge. If convicted, she faces up to six years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
