FAIRFIELD — A Liberty Twp. man tied up his estranged wife and shot her in the head before turning the gun on himself outside of a day-care center, the Butler County Coroner determined Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Evelyn Restituyo, 46, of Colerain Twp., was found dead Monday in the back seat of her estranged husband’s Jeep Cherokee, which was parked in the lot of Jelly Bean Junction at Mack and Winton roads. Her hands and feet were bound together with plastic zip ties, and she had gunshot wounds to her head and upper right thigh, according to the coroner officials.

She was shot by Francisco Restituyo, 47, who then shot himself in the head, said Coroner Dr. Richard Burkhardt, who performed their autopsies Tuesday morning.

“We have a better idea of what happened, but now the investigation will focus on why it happened,” said Fairfield police spokesman Lt. Kevin Haddix. “What happened in their relationship for him to take such an action?”

Haddix said the Restituyos were married, but had been living in different homes.

Evelyn’s family flew in from Manhattan after learning of her death.

Evelyn Restituyo was a temporary employee at Totes in West Chester Twp., but she studied to be a civil engineer in the Dominican Republic, said her aunt.

Haddix said Evelyn and Francisco left her home on Seaford Drive in Colerain Twp. in separate cars around 5:30 a.m. Monday to go to work.

Police said Francisco, who worked at Takumi Stamping in Fairfield, followed Evelyn to her job in West Chester Twp., where they had a confrontation in the parking lot. Francisco apparently shot Evelyn once in her leg and then bound her hands and feet and put her in his vehicle, police said.

The couple’s bodies were found by a lawn-care service employee around 9:15 a.m. Monday. Police found a handgun inside the vehicle, Haddix said.
